Paris Paralympics Opening Ceremony: How to Watch and What to Know

Athletes will parade down the famed Champs-Elysées during the opening ceremony of the Paralympics on Wednesday, making history similar to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Although the performers have not yet been announced, organizers promised "a show that has never been seen before".


How Can I View The Ceremonies of Opening? 

The opening ceremony kickoff will be live streamed on Peacock and broadcast on USA Network at 1:00 p.m. EDT. At 2:00 p.m. EDT, the opening ceremony will start. The official streaming provider for the Games is called Peacock. Every event will be broadcast live, and for those who are unable to watch in real time, full event replays will be available. Also shown live are the Paralympics on USA Network, CNBC, and NBC.


The Team USA Flagbearers Are Who?

Team USA's women's flag-bearer will be gold medallist in sitting volleyball Nicky Nieves. The men's flag-bearer will be current gold medallist in basketball, Steve Serio.

The first official Paralympic Games were held in Rome in 1960. The Paralympics were initially held in 1946 at a veterans hospital in Stoke Mandeville, north of London. Since 1988, the Paralympics have been hosted in the same city and location as the Olympics, usually taking place two weeks after the former. Paralympic competitors will participate in wheelchair rugby, basketball, tennis, and paratriathlon, among other sports having Olympic equivalents. 

The only two sports that are exclusive to the Paralympics are boccia and goalball. Goalball is a team sport played on a court with a net at each end that is designed especially for athletes with visual impairments. Rolling the ball into the goal of the opposition allows teams to score.

To ensure fair play, all players must wear eye protection. Additionally, the ball has bells inside it so that players may track it using sound. Athletes with serious impairments affecting their motor capabilities play Boccia by rolling a leather ball as near to a little white ball known as a jack as they can, each player can get points.

Disaster response officials reported that at least 14 people had died in landslides , floo ds, and swollen rivers due to a strong storm that was blowing out of the northern Philippines on Tuesday. According to the weather agency, Tropical Storm Yagi blew by Paoay town in the province of Ilocos Norte and into the South China Sea with sustained winds of up to 75 kph (47 miles per hour) and gusts of up to 125 kph (78 mph) . It was predicted to intensify into a typhoon as it hurtles across the sea to the northwest and approaches southern China. The Russian Foreign Ministry is in an effort to "clarify" the 39-year-old founder and CEO of Telegram's imprisonment. Pavel Durov , the founder and CEO of Telegram, was taken into custody at the Paris airport Bourget on suspicion of charges relating to the program.
