K-pop artist quits boy band due to allegations of sexual offense

According to a statement released by his company on Wednesday, South Korean singer Taeil has left the K-pop group NCT following allegations of an undisclosed sexual offense.

The 30-year-old member of NCT will leave the boy band after finding out he has been "accused in a criminal case related to a sexual crime," according to a statement his agency, SM Entertainment, posted on X.

Though the label did not elaborate on the specifics of the alleged offense, it stated that Taeil, whose real name is Moon Tae-il, could no longer "continue his activities with the team" because it "recognised the seriousness of the situation".

Taeil has not addressed the accusations in the media.

SM Entertainment went on to say that he is helping the police investigation in any way possible.

According to the statement, which was issued in Korean and translated by Associated Press, "We will provide further statements as the investigation progresses."

According to South Korean media, the Bangbae Police Station in Seoul declared it was looking into Taeil in connection with a sexual offense.Police could not be reached for comment by the BBC.

Taeil was a member of the 2016-debuting, widely acclaimed South Korean boy band NCT, or Neo Culture Technology.

Presently, the group comprises more than twenty members, split among multiple subunits such as NCT 127, NCT Dream, and NCT Wish.

Taeil has been involved with NCT 127 lately.

Taeil was riding his motorcycle when he was involved in an automobile collision in downtown Seoul, South Korea, on August 15, last year.

In order to concentrate on his recuperation and therapy, he momentarily halted his schedule.
Known for their experimental music that crosses several genres, NCT has become well-known throughout the world after some of their recordings appeared on Billboard lists.

Hip-hop, R&B, and pop music were combined to create K-pop, which has its roots in South Korea.

With the success of the boy band BTS in the latter part of the 2010s, it has become an international sensation.
