In a pivotal speech on Friday, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell delivered a direct message to the markets, declaring that "The Time Has Come" for the central bank to start cutting interest rates.

At the annual economic symposium held by the Kansas City Fed in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Powell stated, "It's time for policy to change." Read More

"The direction of travel is clear," said Powell, "and the timing and pace of rate cuts will depend on incoming data, the evolving outlook, and the balance of risks."

Powell's address is scheduled to take place little over three weeks before the Fed's September 17–18 meeting, at which the central bank is expected to declare its first rate reduction since 2020. Read More

Disaster response officials reported that at least 14 people had died in landslides , floo ds, and swollen rivers due to a strong storm that was blowing out of the northern Philippines on Tuesday. According to the weather agency, Tropical Storm Yagi blew by Paoay town in the province of Ilocos Norte and into the South China Sea with sustained winds of up to 75 kph (47 miles per hour) and gusts of up to 125 kph (78 mph) . It was predicted to intensify into a typhoon as it hurtles across the sea to the northwest and approaches southern China. Pavel Durov , the founder and CEO of Telegram, was taken into custody at the Paris airport Bourget on suspicion of charges relating to the program. According to Buenos Aires police, Liam Payne, a former member of the boyband One Direction, died after falling from the third storey of a hotel. His age was thirty-one.  According to the police statement given to CNN, Payne passed away on Wednesday at a hotel on Costa Rica Street in the Palermo neighbourhood.
